State-run hospitals across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa were boycotted by doctors for the fifth day in a row on Sunday despite Prime Minister Imran Khan’s intervention. The provincial government appears helpless against the protesting doctors; leading to severe problems for all patients province-wide. After the governmental failure to comply with their demand of case against Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Health Minister Hasham Inam Ullah, the doctors again resumed their boycott Last week, Inam Ullah was allegedly seen brawling with a doctor of Khyber Teaching Hospital. Earlier on Saturday, PM Khan instructed Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Mehmood Khan to remain firm on his ideology during negotiations with the on-strike doctors. During his visit to Peshawar, he claimed, “Few doctors cannot blackmail the government. Reforms will be brought irrespective of the emerging pressure. The Chief Minister should not back off of his stance.” It may be pertinent to mention here that Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Minister for Health and Information Shaukat Ali Yousafzai, on Wednesday, had offered to hold talks with the Doctors Council in this regard. Addressing a press conference in Peshawar, Yousafzai added that doctors had the right to stage a protest, however, they should also be ready for its consequences.
