Islamabad Police arrested 148 criminals during the past week and seized stolen items worth Rs 9.4 million. According to a police spokesman, police officials were directed by the IGP to accelerate efforts against criminals. “During the past week, 24 robbery and car lifting cases were traced and 28 suspects were arrested. Looted items worth Rs 7.6 million, including gold ornaments, were seized from them,” he said. Police also arrested 30 absconders during the past week. “A total of 19 persons were held for involvement in bootlegging and drug peddling activities. A total of seven kilogrammes of drugs and 19 liquor bottles were recovered from them,” he said. Police also arrested 22 persons for having illegal weapons and seized 21 pistols, one Kalashnikov and 1,461 rounds from them. Seven gamblers were arrested and stake money as well as gambling tools were seized from their possession. Moreover, police arrested 42 other accused for their alleged involvement in crimes of various nature. While reviewing the performance, Operations DIG Waqaruddin Syed appreciated the police officers and said that criminal elements would not to be spared and those involved in such activities would have to face the law. He has also appealed the citizens to cooperate with Islamabad Police in curbing crimes.
