Renowned politician and former member of National Assembly Dr Muhammad Ibrahim Jatoi, on Tuesday, expressed deep concern over the outstanding problems of Shikarpur. The survivor of two suicide attacks alleged that the present local bodies system had failed to provide any facilities to improve the socio-economic condition of people; becoming another venue for corruption. Meanwhile, he claimed, destitute people were always deprived of their fundamental rights due to lack of awareness of the local government system. Therefore there remained a dire need of awareness regarding the present Local Government (LG) system for the welfare of the people of Sindh, Dr Jatoi maintained. The former MNA said this during his visit to Shikarpur Press Club while criticising the federal government’s decision to increase fuel prices. He demanded the government to roll back its decision because the new fuel rates would raise the price of all essential commodities; unleashing another storm of inflation. The politician added that unless we did not concentrate on the poor performance of health and education sectors, we could not get any results. “We are facing many woes and troubles in the field of Health and Education, due to (which) people of Sindh (were) facing horrific diseases including HIV, hepatitis, liver, cardiac arrest,” he continued. Therefore, Dr Jatoi demanded the government to concentrate in the fields of education and health and play its due role for the relief of people of Sindh. Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Shikarpur chapter made a unique example and defeated its own chairman of Shikarpur Municipality Committee through a no-confidence vote, he smiled. “Despite receiving life threats, I also preferred to remain in touch with people of Shikarpur because we are public politicians and believe in serving people of Shikarpur,” Dr Jatoi added. He asserted, “Without the support of people, we could not bring any change in the current scenario.” He was flanked by Ali Hassan Jatoi, Maqsood Mirani and others during the visit.
