The Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee would come together on Sunday evening for the moon sighting of Ramazanul Mubarak. According to media sources, the moon-sighting body would meet on Sunday evening after Maghrib prayers at Met Office Complex in Karachi. Ruet-e-Hilal Committee’s Chairman, Mufti Muneeb-ur-Rehman, would preside over the meeting. Zonal Ruet-e-Hilal Committees would meet in Lahore, Quetta and Peshawar, while the district bodies would meet at their respective headquarters. The committee is set to announce tomorrow whether the moon of 1st Ramazan ul Mubarak sighted or not The month of fasting, Ramazan ul Mubarak is the ninth month of the Islamic lunar calendar. The weather department had earlier stated that the moon of Ramazan would most likely not be seen on Sunday evening. Pakistan Meteorological Department added that the new moon of Ramazan, 1440 AH, would be born on crossing conjunction point at 03:45 Pakistan Standard Time (PST) on Sunday. The moon would be sighted on the evening of Monday while the holy month of Ramazan is expected to begin on Tuesday, the weather office noted. The met office claimed that astronomical parameters denote absolutely no chance of sighting of the new moon on the evening of Sunday, May 05, i.e. 29 Shaaban. An expert noted, “The new moon will be 15 hours and 18 minutes old by the time sun sets on Sunday, May 05 in Pakistan, and it will be only seven degrees above the horizon,” “It means, there will be no chance of sighting the Ramazan moon in Pakistan on May 05, he maintained.” According to PMD, the sun would set on 7:04 pm on Monday and the crescent could be sighted till 7:33 pm. The weather was expected to be fair or partly cloudy in most parts of the country, Saudi Arabia and other countries in the Middle East, however, would be able to see the moon on Sunday and hold the first fast of the holy month on Monday. Similar to Pakistan, other South Asian countries, Bangladesh and India, as well as other countries in Asia and Africa, would also sight the Ramazan moon on Monday.
