ISLAMABAD: A new born baby died at the Gynae Ward of the Government Services Hospital(Poly Clinic Hospital) of the capital due to sheer negligence and avarice of the lady gynae doctor deployed there, the parent of the deceased child told Daily Times on Friday. A pregnant woman, Sidraha, was brought to the hospital for delivery at the night but the gynae doctor on duty was reluctant to operate her and repeatedly directed the patient to visit a private clinic on morning for delivery. On the direction of the lady doctor, Naila Israr, who is also heading Gynae Ward of the hospital and also working at her own private clinic with impunity gave a pain killer tablet to the patient and refused to admit her at the emergency ward which was imperative as the condition of the patient was deteriorating. The patient on the directions of the doctor Naila Israr was not admitted to an emergency ward despite the worsening condition of the patient and the patient put the next 12 hour on a simple pain killer tablet, said the father of the deceased child. During this testing time the condition of an adolescent deteriorated in his mother’s bowels due to late operation and died instantly after his birth, a medical expert at the hospital told this scribe. Patient Sidra is the wife of a labourer, Irfan, whose financial conditions did not permit them to visit a private gynae medical facility but at the government hospital the doctors showed negligence and caused the death of their loved one who was their first child. Another medical expert told Daily Times that an adolescent died because he suffered from Meconium and this complication develop in the children when the deliveries are not operated in time. The startling revelation also came to the fore that the operation of the pregnant women was delayed because the In Charge of the Gynae Ward Naila Israr went home at night and delayed the operation till the next morning. The patient was given simple gynae tablets and four ceps injection were given to her by some inexperienced and untrained lady doctor just to delay the operation because the In Charge of the Gynae Ward Dr Naila Israr was enjoying the cold December night at her cosy home. A medical expert on condition of anonymity told Daily Times that gynae tablets and 4 Ceps injection caused shortage of womb liqour which was the main cause of the adolescent’s death at the door steps of the hospital and also speaks sheer negligence of the doctors on the duty. The father and his relatives also staged a protest outside the hospital against the negligence of the doctor and called for accountability of the medical experts who are not dispensing justice to the patients. Dr Naila Israr also threatened the protesting heir of the child and warned them to abstain from protesting otherwise strict action would be taken against them. It is pertinent to mention here that in the past more than a dozen adolescents or pregnant mothers had lost their lives due to sheer negligence of the gynae doctors and none of them have faced any inquiry or disciplinary action. The Secretary CA&DD, Nargis Ghillo, told Daily Times that disciplinary action against the responsible doctors and the government could not ignore the negligence of the doctors who caused the death of an adolescent.
