Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah has decided to appear before the National Accountability (NAB) on Monday (today), instead of Tuesday, a private TV channel reported on Sunday.

The chief minister will be appearing before the anti-corruption watchdog in connection with an ongoing probe into fake bank accounts case. The provincial chief executive will appear at NAB’s old headquarters in Rawalpindi where Director General Irfan Mangi will record his statement. The chief minister will also be handed over a written questionnaire by the NAB investigators.

DG NAB Rawalpindi Irfan Mangi has, meanwhile, contacted the district administration and sought additional security measures at the NAB office.

On March 21, NAB’s Rawalpindi office had summoned Sindh chief minister Murad Ali Shah to appear before it on March 26 in a case related to awarding subsidy of billions of rupees to Omni group sugar mills in Sindh’s Thatta and Dadu districts. The accountability bureau has further directed the chief minister to bring along all records pertaining to the Sakrand, Khoski, Pangrio and Thatta sugar mills.

On March 20, former president Asif Ali Zardari and Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari had appeared before NAB and recorded their statements in the Park Lane Estate case. A large number of PPP workers were arrested following clashes with police ahead of the scheduled appearance of Bilawal and Zardari before the NAB investigators at the old headquarters in Rawalpindi. Clashes had broken out between police and the PPP workers when police did not allow the charged activists to receive their leaders outside the NAB office.
