Cleanliness Week begins in Rawalpindi with a ceremony

Pakistan Zindabad Cleanliness Week under clean and green Punjab was launched in district Rawalpindi on Monday.

The inaugural ceremony which took place at Fatima Jinnah Women University was attended by Federal Minister Zartaj Gull, Commissioner Joudat Ayaz, Deputy Commissioner Chaudry Muhammad Ali Randhawa, Additional Deputy Commissioner (G) Maleeha Jamal, VC Samina Amin Qadir, Chairman PHA Asif Mehmood, DO Population welfare Shereen Sukhan, Secretary RWMC Dr. Rizwan Sherdil and a huge number of students.

While addressing the participants of awareness seminar, Zartaj Gull, Asif Mehmood, Commissioner and DC RWP said that students can bring the change in our society and they were the reason behind organising this inaugural ceremony at university.

A walk was also arranged after the seminar symbolising the need for cleanliness in a healthy society.

Moreover, Provincial Minister for local Government and Law Raja Basharat visited Murree Road to check the cleaning arrangements made by departments.

Another function was also held in Rawalpindi Arts Council regarding the launch of Pakistan Zindabad week, while the Parks and Horticulture Authority (PHA) established free plant distribution points outside Nawaz Sharif Park, Liaquat Bagh and other points of the city.

The Rawalpindi Waste Management Company (RWMC) has distributed Waste bags and awareness pamphlets among the citizens at different points of the city. Moreover, the Municipal Corporation Rawalpindi (MCR) has geared up the anti-encroachment campaign; footpaths were cleared while removal of Wall Chalking has been started by the authorities. National flags have been set up on shops and roads of the city.

It is pertinent to mention that officials including Chief Officer of MCR have also performed duty on Sunday working round the clock to make the campaign successful.

Special arrangements have also been made by the Chaklala Cantonment Board and Rawalpindi Cantonment Board in their respective jurisdictions to make their areas clean and green.
