Parks and Horticulture Authority (PHA) planned to construct Bab-e-Pothohar (Pothohar Gate) at the entrance of city on G.T Road near Rawat.
While talking exclusively with Daily Times, Chairman PHA Asif Mehmood informed that as the Rawalpindi City does not have any monument or symbol of representation, PHA has planned to construct a Bab-e-Pothohar (Pothohar Gate) at the entrance of the city on G.T Road near Rawat.
Moreover, all the other entry points of the city will also be decorated to welcome the public coming to Rawalpindi, he added.
He said, a local private company has provided different designs for the proposed entry gate, which will be finalised soon. The company will also bear all the expenses of the Bab-e-Pothohar.
Asif Mehmood said, PHA will also host a week-long spring family festival in the second week of April. The festival would feature various events including a family gala, food festival, kids’ arena, different competitions, flowers exhibition etc. Furthermore, a musical concert would also be held to make the event remarkable, he maintained.

Chairman PHA also announced to re-auction the contract for the advertisement on the pillars of the metro bus track. He said that advertisement on these pillars is a key source of income for the department. Earlier this, a company had offered 4 lacs per month for the advertisement on these pillars but it is not enough, he told. Henceforth, a proposal is being sought from the private companies while beautification of the city and fund generation would be the two main objectives of this project, he said.
In pursuance to ‘Clean and Green Campaign’, Parks and Horticulture Authority (PHA) Rawalpindi has distributed more than three thousand plants last week while more than five thousand saplings were planted at different public places, Director Horticulture Sheikh Tariq informed. He said, the spring plantation campaign will continue till May, while urging the traders, social and political leaders and civil society members to participate in the campaign to make their city clean and green.
