Sir: The Naya Pakistan that the people has been dreaming for … is in the making. The accountability of the sacred cows is no more unthinkable. What the people wished and thought of, is soon going to become a manifested reality. In retrospect, never had it happened that the state institutions were as free in exercising their constitutional power as of now.

For instance, NAB’s ruthless accountability drive and detention of politicians in a democratic dispensation is what the people of Pakistan are seeing for the first time. The anti-corruption crusade is an aberration from the past. Dubbing it as a witch hunt and a nexus between NAB and incumbent government is utterly ridiculous and absurd.

The new Pakistan was flashed in Lahore when senior Punjab Minister Aleem Khan was arrested by NAB. The existing state of affairs is harbinger of a new horizon. Had the former rulers undergone such scrutiny in the past, no one would have dared to resort to such abhorrent practices nor there would have been billions of dollars stash abroad nor offshore companies built illegally.

The investigations are underway. The onus lies both on prosecutors and the accused. They both have to fight their own cases. It is yet to see if the accused are guilty and if they got convicted or not but we the common people of the country can now hope that a bright future is waiting ahead.

Rule of law is taking its course. The haves and have-nots both are now under the same law. The rulers who ruled in the past were rarely held responsible for their malfeasances. They never heard to the music of accountability nor dared anyone to challenge them. In the Naya Pakistan they would no longer enjoy impunity.

Independent and impartial state institutions are sine quo non for a country’s development. The accountability drive has indubitably created trust on the state institutions and the rule of law and the state of being to be held responsible for wrong doings among the people. Let this sacrosanct drive continue unabated.
