The young doctors are again on the way to antagonize the patients by staging a protest against the chairman, meagre number of hostels and low salary. There is no doubt that in a democratic society, everyone enjoys the right to protest against the government for the acceptance of demands. However, such callous manner of protest by one of the most educated elites of the country is pathetic and beyond reasoning and always proves counterproductive. The closed OPD’s do not brew any inconvenience within the ranks of government or upper class as they are able enough to visit private hospitals or approach private doctors. It exacerbates the situation only for the patients pertaining to lower class who come to these hospitals from far-flung areas across the country. It is high time for the concerned authorities to take stringent action against those doctors who irk the poor patients and have nothing to do with this noble profession which aims primarily at rendering unconditional services to the ailing mankind. Only this will alleviate the escalating and brewing concerns and wave of embarrassment within the ranks of masses. AYESHA KHALID Lahore Published in Daily Times, February 13th 2019.
