KARACHI: The Rangers has detained 10 suspects including an assistant registrar of the Karachi University on Thursday. Assistant Registrar of Karachi University Arif Haider was apprehended from his office during a raid at the campus. The KU administration has informed that Arif Haider was taken into detention from his office, but they denied of having any further details. The Rangers have also not disclosed the reasons behind his detention, however, sources say that he had connections with MQM-London and was in touch with the party leaders. Rangers have arrested him after the confirmation of his connections with MQM-L, they added. The Rangers have also conducted several operations in Korangi, Jamshed Town and City Town areas, during the day. At least six alleged criminals were arrested during the raids, of which one suspect belongs to a political party, a Rangers spokesman informed. Illegal weapons have also been told to have been recovered during the raids. On the other hand, the police has nabbed three suspects in overnight raids in different areas of the city. Police arrested a suspect, Muhammad Shahzad, from Nazimabad No 3 and recovered 180 kg of narcotics from him. Police has also arrested two suspects in injured condition after a cross-fire near Nala Stop in New Karachi. Police have claimed that the suspects, Zeeshan Commando and Muhammad Zeeshan, were wanted in several cases. Mobile phones, motorcycles and cash have been recovered from the suspects.
