Eliminating misuse of power, corruption and nepotism in Rawalpindi Waste Management Company (RWMC) will be a challenge for the newly appointed Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Asim Ayub.

Asim Ayub was ppointed as CEO of the Rawalpindi Waste Management Company (RWMC) on January 28, 2019. He is on serial number 80 in the Pakistan Administrative Services seniority list, while the deputy commissioner Rawalpindi Dr. Umer Jehangir who is also having the additional charge of Chairman RWMC is on 96 in the list.

To overcome the corruption and nepotism in the company will be a challenge for him as inquiries regarding the irregularities and corruption by the previous administration are pending in NAB and Anti-Corruption Establishment.

As per the contract, Al-Byrak has provided four vehicles to the Rawalpindi Waste Management Company for the monitoring of their work, however, the RWMC are using these vehicles for their personal use.

Secretary Rizwan Sherdil is using a Culture car of RWMC for his personal use and also has a Honda Civic car provided by the Al-Byrak. Moreover, a Suzuki Mehran of RWMC is being used by his family, the sources mentioned.

Another vehicle number RI 893 of Al-Byrak is still in use of PML-N’s former MPA Raja Haneef Advocate, while a driver namely Mazhar Sultan and two sanitary workers of RWMC are also performing duties at his residence, the sources revealed further.

The source went on to say that objection regarding the misuse of the company vehicles was also raised in the audit report of 2017, but the management kept a blind eye.

The Secretary Rizwan Sherdil, during his tenure as acting MD, has violated the due and fair process of promoting relevant officials and has accommodated his blue-eyed staff members on key posts, said sources.

Inquiries regarding the irregularities and corruption in RWMC are also pending in National Accountability Bureau (NAB) and Directorate of the Anti-Corruption Establishment.

When contacted, Rizwan Sherdil said, he is using only one vehicle, while the CEO Asim Ayub could not be reached for comments.
