Construction work on Khana Interchange should be done fast: CDA chairman

The construction of Khana Interchange at Islamabad Expressway must be completed by March 15, 2019 while pedestrian bridges at Islamabad Expressway be installed within the next two weeks so that people can use these bridges for crossing roads and smooth flow of traffic could be ensured as well as traffic accidents could be averted.

This vision was expressed by Chief Commissioner and Capital Development Authority (CDA) Chairman Amer Ali Ahmed while visiting Khana Interchange on Tuesday.

On this occasion, engineering member briefed the CDA chairman that after completing Koral and Sohan Interchanges, construction work on Khana Interchange is being completed at a fast pace. The chairman said that the completion of construction work on the interchange must be ensured by March 15 so that the traffic flow on the Islamabad Expressway could be improved. He further directed to carry out landscaping around the loops of the interchange and adjoining areas.

Traffic sign boards to be installed at the interchange for the ease of commuters

The CDA chairman directed the concerned formations of the authority to install traffic sign boards for the guidance of the commuters. He further directed to coordinate with traffic police to ensure a smooth flow of traffic in the areas where people face difficulties during peak hours. He directed to shift the police station situated adjacent to the interchange to some other location with the mutual coordination of Islamabad police.

After visiting the Khana Interchange, Amer Ali Ahmed also headed a meeting at the site office which was attended by Security Deputy Inspector General Waqar Ahmed Chohan, Traffic Senior Superintendent Police (SSP) Farrukh Rashid, SP Traffic Khalid Rashid and officers of concerned formations. The meeting discussed different options to improve traffic flow all over the city particularly at Rawal Dam Chowk, Blue Area, Park Road and other areas. The chairman directed the traffic planning director and the authority’s urban planning director to coordinate with the traffic SSP and submit workable suggestions so that traffic issues in the city could be resolved.
