These buildings were originally meant for residential plots but later the management of Soan Gardens converted them into commercial plot and approved their building plan.
It is pertinent to mention that around 100 housing societies are illegal while more than 50 housing societies are violating the layout plan by converting residential plots into commercial buildings. They are also converting graveyards, playgrounds, public parks and green belts to commercial and residential plots under the blind eye of the civic agency. The CDA in a recent interesting move issued notification to many of these housing societies to submit fines and regularising fees through which all illegalities would be provided a legal cover despite rapid urbanisation in the capital.
Citizens are expressing their reservations on different forums and questioning the role of the capital body when the mushroom growth of these housing societies was growing in Islamabad without a No Objection Certificate and layout plan from the civic agency.
But an official of the capital body claimed that after taking over the Building Control by CDA in private housing societies and schemes, a large number of irregularities have come to surface, therefore the CDA informed all the general public through various notices of not investing in any housing society/scheme unless proper verification from CDA.
