Clash of the Titans; Alibaba, Ambani & E-commerce

Author: Naseem Javed

Platform where smart ideas once deployed at grand massive national or global scale become reality at much quicker pace over other traditional business models. What are the lessons for the micro-power-nations of Asia and if there is anything they can do or just stay as spectators? More on Titans…

Pakistan like other micro-power-nations already have a ready to go national e-commerce platform but lack of vison, special skills, global-age knowledge and mobilization expertise precludes these national deployments. Today, a national platform to start with is basically one single smart phone in the hand of one person, connected to a free trillion-dollar worth network already hidden with 1000 almost free technologies. All you do now is to add another 100 million smart phone in the hand of one person, connected to a free trillion-dollar worth network already hidden with 1000 almost free technologies. All you do now is to add another 100 million smart phones and here is your national network. The micro-power-nations of the world are slowly awakening. The difference between vision and illusion and hallucination is where the success stories get sorted out. Today it’s all about mental stamina fit enough to understand and deploy national programs.

Pakistan, like other micro-power nations, has a ready to go national e-commerce platform but lack of vison, special skills, global-age knowledge and mobilisation expertise precludes its effective use

All at bullet speed, all across the nation, all almost free and all designed to help grassroots prosperity.

Pakistan already has million, smart enough businesses to come under some sophisticated umbrella of connectivity. But the lack of collective discussions and knowledge prohibits such progress. The sleepy organizations and agencies already mandated to solve such issues and stay ahead of technology curves are dead silent and locked in their own mental freeze. The level of competency on such affairs is now visible globally. Economic development is now directly related to smart nations with smart cities and smart citizenry.

Pakistan already has a smart, educated youthful working force but massive deployments are extremely foreign concepts and nothing significant has been achieved.  This has nothing to do with clusters of incubators or start-up sing songs, this is all about midsize economy to be herded into large stadiums, exposed to new challenges and options, trained extensively and given ready to deploy models so they come up with pragmatic solutions fit enough for this global age and for new type digitally accessible economies. The world will not wait and the economy of Pakistan already proves a good example of a critical lack of global age skills.

Beneficiaries: SME of the nation — the consumers getting better choices on pricing and quality, Enemies: large established retailers and merchandizers seeing their exclusivity declining

Adjustments: mandating all national trade agencies to prove their global age skills, assembly of thought leadership and exploring national agenda on entrepreneurial mobilization.
