Unidentified armed men gunned down chief of Bara Peace Committee district Khyber Malik Mir Alam Afridi here on Saturday and escaped the scene. Police said that unknown armed motorcyclists sprayed bullets chief of Bara Peace Committee in Hayatabad area of Peshawar. As a result of firing Mir Alam Afridi was killed on the spot and the assailants fled the scene. The body was shifted to Hayatabad Medical Complex for postmortem and the police, after registering a case against unknown assailants, have started an investigation. Afridi was a known symbol of resistance to militancy in the area of Bara tehsil. This was the second attempt on his life; he previously survived a gun attack near Arbab Road in Peshawar in 2014. Afridi’s murder is the second target killing on Peshawar’s Ring Road in recent days, following the December 3 attack on journalists Noorul Hasan and Sabir. Published in Daily Times, January 20th 2019.
