Sindh government has directed Sindh Building Control Authority (SBCA) to implement orders of the Supreme Court of Pakistan regarding lifting of ban on construction of high-rise and multi-story buildings in Karachi with immediate effect. The Association of Builders and Developers of Pakistan (ABAD) has welcomed the decision of Sindh government and said that early resumption of construction activities will be beneficial for the government, builders and general public; thousands of people, who had lost their livelihood due to ban on construction of high-rise buildings in the mega city, will start getting their earnings. It is to recall that more than 300 plans of high-rise and multi-story buildings were pending before relevant authority and more than Rs. 600 billion investment was stuck up for more than one and a half year due to ban on construction of high-rise multi-story buildings in Karachi. The Supreme Court had lifted its ban on construction of high-rise buildings on 11th December, 2018; however, Sindh government took more than one month to direct SBCA for implementation of SC orders. More than 300 plans of high-rise and multi-story buildings have been pending before the relevant authority Chairman ABAD Muhammad Hassan Bakshi, senior vice chairman Anwar Dawood, vice chairman Abdul Kareem Adhia and Chairman Sothern Region ABAD Ibrahim Habib have welcomed the decision. They demanded of the SBCA to approve plans of more than 300 buildings, pending since almost two years, so that builders can start their construction activities and people get jobs. Office-bearers of ABAD have also thanked Sindh government. Chairman Sothern Region said that the Local Government Housing Town Planning department has officially written to Director General SBCA for implementation of SC orders. Secretary Local government Sindh Khalid Hyder Shah handed over copy of the letter to Ibrahim Habib officially. Published in Daily Times, January 19th 2019.
