After the passage of three years, a murder case was registered against 14 policemen for allegedly killing two brothers in a fake encounter in Ghotki district of Sindh, private channel reported. The police were hesitant in registering a murder case against their officers. The complainant from the deceased’s relatives then approached the Sindh High Court (SHC) seeking directives for police to lodge the case. The Ghotki police registered a first information report (FIR) of the incident on the complaint of the deceased’s brother, nominating 14 police officials. So far no arrest has been made following the registration of the case, according to sources. It is pertinent to mention here that the Sindh High Court, while hearing a case pertaining to a police encounter in Karachi, had observed that police shootouts raised several questions over the department’s performance and that they needed to be investigated further. A suspect, Rafiqullah, was arrested after a police encounter in Karachi’s PIB Colony in 2015. The police had found a 30-bore pistol, ammunition and drugs in his possession, according to the prosecution. The suspect’s counsel, however, denied the allegations and contended that a (fake) police encounter case was registered against his client on the behest of an influential person.
