Bollywood actor Rani Mukerji might be a widely loved personality thanks to the charm she carries from the 90s and has still managed to win hearts on screen till date, but the actress definitely has a viewpoint on the ongoing Me Toomovement which wasn’t appreciated by most, including actresses Anushka Sharma and Deepika Padukone. According to a report in DNA, Anushka, Deepika, Rani, Alia Bhatt, Tabu and Taapsee Pannu were called on a round-table conference meet, where he got the topic which became one of the biggest highlights of 2018, and had to do with women celebrities. Anushka, Deepika and Alia had supported the movement even previously and they maintained that Me Too movement is a good move, since Karan (Johar) rightly said, now people think twice before acting around women. But Rani, who made her way to the conference for her role in Hitchki as a teacher who stands tall for her rowdy students, made a point which appeared very bizarre to most people. She said ‘self-defence’ is necessary and so learning martial arts is important and it should become a part of the school schedule. To that, Deepika made a very valid point saying ‘but why to even bring it to the point where girls should learn self-defence’ and Anushka agreed with Deepika, to which Rani defended saying, “You can’t tell mothers how to bring up their children”, which has been picked up by Twitter and created a rage among the Twitteratis, because what was Rani even thinking!? Here are some of the reactions: @Khushi87906150: Rani mukherjee=disappointment at 2018 #actressroundtable .. I liked the actors round table much more!!. Brishti@yourstrulybrish: The women has to know that “she does not want it to happen”. Does Rani Mukherjee know what rape is? It is the act of FORCING someone into sexual contact. It is GIVEN that she does NOT want it to happen. THAT’S WHY when it happens it is SEXUAL ASSAULT. megzie@megzie__ : Oh, ok. So you can’t tell people how to bring up their sons to be respectful of women, but perfectly practical to make sure all women, girls, infants are enrolled for karate classes en-masse, pronto.Dafuq Rani? #ranimukherjee and Preity are a blot on the actresses of their time. Doe?: Deepika, Anushka, And Alia really were making great points while Rani here makes martial arts noises. You can’t make this shit up. F@feroze1704: Wow rani mukherjee is a massive idiot isnt she. Kevin Shah@kevinshah91: I think Rani Mukherjee should take a cue from her husband and shun appearances with such archaic views. Naomi Datta@nowme_datta: So I saw that clip. And I could be wrong, but Rani says train women in self defence and Deepika says you shouldn’t even have a situation where the answer is train women in martial arts. So I didn’t get particularly outraged – cos they are both right. Siva Prasad Rao@Sivaprasadrao: Yes. Rani Mukherjee is not wrong. It’s like saying we don’t need police because, ideally people shouldn’t be committing crimes. Pandey @Jhalla_wallah: Rani Mukherjee is that friend in group discussion round of placement who thinks speaking more will get more brownie points. Published in Daily Times, January 1st 2019.
