Sir: Sometimes it is hard to believe that country like Pakistan has a severe issue like stunted growth. The Country which is Nuclear Power has Motorways, best road infrastructure, any resources you name it, Pakistan have it. Still the recent studies show that almost 50 percent of the Pakistani children suffering with stagnant growth which is an alarming for any country if the figures are this high. Studies show that Pakistan has 9.9 million stunted children. This statistics shows that Pakistan is 3rd in ranking after India and Nigeria. What is stunted growth? It is a form of Malnutrition in which the children does get enough food to grow. Such children are stunted and unable to grow properly, they seem weaker body and mental problems. In short, they lack capabilities which other children who are properly fed have. There are some major reasons for malnutrition which are poor hygienic conditions, shortage of food, poor sanitary system and unawareness. Well, there is no problem without a solution. If we follow the example of Peru, there government has minimized it. The ratio of malnutrition in Peru is reduced by half in just seven years ie 2007 to 14 by using cash transfers and other techniques. If Peru can do that we can do it quite quicker because of the resources we have. If we remove the stunted growth it will help Pakistan eradicate poverty quicker because the person having full growth is 33 percent more likely to get themself out of poverty. So if we invest millions in this sector it will return in billions. We hope that Imran Khan will start work on this issue as soon as possible.
