Sindh Governor Imran Ismail said that universities could play their role in bring about economic prosperity and social development in Pakistan.

He said this while addressing the 22nd convocation of Mehran University of Engineering and Technology (MUET), Jamshoro on Monday. “Education is only thing that teach us to live with love and peace,” said the governor. He added that educated people in the country had big responsibilities.

“Universities should play their role in bringing about economic prosperity and social progress of the country,” he said. Appreciating MUET, he said that the teachers and engineers of MUET Jamshoro were working on development projects in an exemplary manner. He said that students of MUET were fortunate to have access to a conducive space for learning. He said that MUET enjoyed a good name in the field of research within country and MUET alumni had achieved PhDs from renowned institutes of the world.

Vice chancellor of MUET Jamshoro, Dr Mohammad Aslam Uqili told the audience that because of the credibility and standard of teachers of MUET, the other organizations were seeking the expertise and opinion from them on a monthly basis. He said that increasing population, energy, water and environment pollutions werea big problems of our country and MUET had organized national international conferences on topic of energy and environment and its recommendations for related institutions had been sent for implementations. He said that today’s research was more about resolving issues than generating paper heaps and the teachers should focus on such research. He said that MUET Jamshoro had contributed greatly in the field of research for a decade. He said that government authorities should increase cooperation and contact with academia for solution of country problems.

A total of 940 students were awarded gold medal, silver medal and merit certificates. Over all seven gold medals were given to students among them four faculties toppers were given four gold medals and three gold medals were given best graduates, 30 first position holders were given silver medals, 26 second position and 26 third positions were given merit certificates in convocations.

In convocation 9 Phds scholars, 88 MA and 8 Mphil, 29 bachelors of architecture and 20 bachlors of CRP and 8 B Tech honors, 3 B tech pass and 12 BS IT main campus Jamshoro, 645 bachelors of engineering and Shaheed Zulifiqar Ali Bhutto campus Khairpir Mirs 118 bachelors of engineering’s were awarded degrees. Syeda Isbas Firdous was awarded two gold medals for securing top position in faculty of architecture and civil engineering and for best gradate.

Sara Khawaja was awarded gold medal as securing top position in faculty of electronics, electrical and comport system engineering and Shaikir Shakoor awarded gold medal for securing top position in faulty of mechanical engineering. It remembered that in 22 convocation 30 silver medals were given to students securing second and third position, 54 students were given appreciation certificates. Federal minister for water resources Faisal Vawada, vice chancellors of Sindh University Jamshoro Dr Fateh Mohammad Burfat, Vice chancellor of LUMHS DrBekha Ram, Vice Chancellor of Sindh Agriculture University Tando Jam Dr Mujeeb Uddin Sehrai and Pro vice chancellors of various universities, students attended convocation.
