Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Leader Qamar Zaman Kaira on Monday claimed that the ongoing accountability process in the country lacks transparency. Addressing the media in Lahore, the PPP stalwart stated, “History has held us accountable, but what about your accountability? There is no transparency in your accountability process.” He added that those with the incumbent government have cases registered against them. “There are cases against the speaker of Punjab Assembly, then why are they being ignored and are not arrested?” PPP’s Qamar Zaman Kaira questioned. He maintained that the opposition is protesting due to the lack of transparency in the accountability process. “What has party co-chairperson Asif Ali Zardari done wrong?” Lamenting that politicians are always blamed for corruption and nepotism, Qamar Zaman Kaira said martial law governments did not fare better either. He also alleged that the party was being punished for its support of the 18th Amendment. Referring to Brexit, Zaman Kaira said British intelligence agencies are not intervening in the process, even though it is a complicated affair. “The court holds the executive accountable, we are also obviously going to ask the court to look into your affairs,” the former information minister said, adding that this does not mean that the party is against state institutions.
