The Closed Circuit Television (CCTV) cameras installed in the parks have become a source for the Parks & Horticulture Authority (PHA) staff to blackmail couples and get a bribe from them.

Sources revealed that PHA security staff deployed in parks capture videos through CCTV cameras installed in the parks and transfer them to their mobile phones. The officials then follow the couples and blackmail them by showing them their videos and demand money from them.

Sources said that the security staff has also created a Whatsapp group to share those videos and photos with each other.

According to PHA officials, there are four major parks including Nawaz Sharif Park, Shehbaz Sharif Park, Liaquat Bagh and Public Park, Dhok Munshi where CCTV cameras are installed for security purpose while monitoring rooms are also established in each park. About 10 security officials are deployed in each park.

Sources said that most of the security staff is on daily wages and were appointed in the previous government on political basis.

When contacted, PHA Chairman Asif Mahmood said, “I am holding an inquiry about the late night illegal activities of notorious youth allegedly with the support of PHA staff in the parks.”
