The police baton-charged protesting employees of the Port Qasim Authority after they attempted to reach the Governor House where Prime Minister (PM) Imran Khan was staying in order to stage a sit-in protest. It is worth mentioning that the Port Qasim Authority employees had been staging protest outside the Karachi Press Club (KPC) for over two months against non-payment of their salaries by their employers. The workers were baton-charged and the police apprehended at least 12 protestors on the occasion. The police pushed back the protestors by using water cannons and heavy contingent of police blocked the road leading to Governor House by placing blockades near Fawara Chowk. Reportedly, a large contingent of police was also deployed outside the Governor House for ‘security reasons.’ The protestors had been demanding that Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Justice Mian Saqib Nisar, Prime Minister (PM) Imran Khan and Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Qamar Bajwa take notice of their situation and resolve their issues.
