KARACHI: Pakistan cricket team captain Sarfraz Ahmed said he will step down from captaincy if he fails to deliver.

Speaking with media on the book launching ceremony of famous sports journalist Saleem Khaliq, Sarfraz said he will step down himself as Test captain if he felt he fails to deliver and is the reason for Pakistan’s defeat.

“Without producing positive results it is useless to lead the team as captain ,” Sarfraz said when asked if he will step down if team fails to do well in South Africa.

The young wicket-keeper and batsman said that the team must learn from its mistakes.

He added that Pakistan could have easily won the Test series against New Zealand which the team lost due to its own mistakes.

“We must overcome these mistakes which cost us games in UAE against New Zealand, this was the series we should have won,” he said.

He stressed on playing positive and fearless cricket against South Africa.

“It will be a difficult series, we will have to go there with a positive mindset and play fearless cricket without allowing opponents to overpower us,” he said.

He also praised Yasir Shah and hoped that the leg-spinner will continue to bring more laurels for Pakistan cricket in future.
