Pakistan People’s Party central Punjab president Qamar Zamar Kaira has termed the statement of Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) Director General (DG) Major General Asif Ghafoor regarding Prime Minister Imran Khan’s remarks in which he said that the army is supporting the manifesto of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf a good-will gesture. Addressing a press conference in Lahore on Saturday, former federal minister of PPP and president of Punjab chapter said that the statement of the ISPR DG should be taken as a good-will gesture but the government of PTI was creating problems for itself through its policies. It is pertinent to mention here that the PPP had earlier demanded a clarification from the ISPR DG over the statement of the prime minister that the army was standing by the manifesto of the PTI. Criticizing the government, Kaira said that every segment of the society, including traders, industrialists, farmers, general public and media workers, were perturbed due to the policies of PTI-led government as it has miserably failed to run the economy. “The policy statements of the government revolve around future prospects… they have done nothing so far despite the fact that they have been in power for the last 125 days,” said Kaira. He further added that the PM used to claim that his government would give employment to thousands of people but they had started snatching the employment opportunities from them instead. “Farmers are in a miserable condition these days as the sugar mills have yet to start the crushing season. Another crisis can also emerge if farmers will not harvest the wheat in some days after clearing the sugarcane crop,” he said, and added that the PPP had launched a movement for the rights of poor farmers. He was of the view that fares of Pakistan Railways had also been increased. Talking about the cases on PPP’s leadership, Kaira said that both the Pakistan’s and international courts had exonerated the PPP in the past and once again the cases would also be declared false. He questioned why the case of Aleema Khan was not being given to the NAB and why the Joint Investigation Team was not being constituted to probe her money trail. “Imran Khan used to demand money trails from others and why does he not doing the same over the issue of Aleema Khan. We demand money trail of Aleema Khan,” he added. He was of the view that only qualification to get the post of government’s spokesperson was to abuse opposition and level baseless allegations. Kaira also questioned the meetings of Imran Khan with NAB Chairman. PPP Punjab General Secretary Chaudhry Manzoor was also present on the occasion. Published in Daily Times, December 9th 2018.
