ISLAMABAD: Ambassadors of several countries stationed in Islamabad deliberated the challenges facing the globe, including refugee crises, water scarcity and the role of United Nations in Palestine, Yemen, Syria and Kashmir conflicts on Saturday. The discussion took place as part of a Diplomatic Moot held on the second day of the Millennial Model United Nations 2018 organised by the Roots Flagship Millennium Campus. The event was moderated by ambassadors representing United Nations member states, including Tunisian Ambassador Adel Elarbi, Sri Lankan High Commissioner Noordeen Muhammad Shahied, former Malaysian high commissioner Syed Hassan Raza, Ministry of Foreign Affairs Additional Secretary General (r) Raza Muhammad and Roots Millennium Education Chief Executive Officer Chaudhary Faisal Mushtaq. The event provided an extraordinary platform to discuss important and sensitive issues. This year’s topic of the ‘Diplomatic Moot’ debate was Global Humanitarian Crisis. The delegates discussed issues related to refugee crises, water scarcity, the role of UN in Palestine, Yemen, Syria and the Kashmir conflicts in a profound manner. The moot provided an opportunity to the youth to share their thoughts with the diplomatic community. The knowledgeable session enlightened youth on different aspects of the UN and its roles. The diplomats were highly pleased to interact with the young students and encouraged them to utilize their talent to make positive contributions to the society. During the question-answer session, a student asked whether countering terrorism was vital in solving refugee crises. The ambassadors agreed that it was categorically important and highly essential to eliminate the menace of terrorism in order to reach a better solution to the refugee crises.The Diplomatic Moot concluded on a pleasant note with ample appreciation by the ambassadors for deep insight of the young students into world issues and their intellectual ideas. They highly appreciated Roots CEO Faisal Mushtaq and the college management for developing the ability to deeply think and critically analyse the issues and situations among the students. The ambassadors commended the delegates on their knowledge and concerns about national as well as global issues.
