Author: Staff Report

Orientation ceremony for newly admitted students was held on Wednesday at the Punjab University College of Information Technology (PUCIT).

The event management society at the college organised the function. PUCIT faculty, senior administrative staff and principal Dr Syed Mansoor Sarwar, welcomed the newcomers.

Dr Muhammad Kamran Malik and Mr Asif Sohail, degree coordinators for BS Software Engineering and BS Computer Science, briefed students about the various university and college policies regarding academics and discipline.

PUCIT Principal Dr Syed Mansoor Sarwar congratulated the new batch of students and informed them that they were admitted after a highly competitive process. He said that 22,193 students had applied for the college entrance test for 838 merit based seats in the undergraduate and graduate degree programmes. He further said that this resulted in acceptance rate of less than 4 percent. “The competition was the toughest for the BS programmes in which 97 students were rejected for every three admitted students. This makes you some of the brightest students in the province and PUCIT is proud to have you,” Dr Mansoor Sarwar added.

Dr Sarwar informed the house that PUCIT graduates formed more than 30 percent of the Information Technology workforce in the local software industry. He added that well groomed college alumni through outstanding teaching and research by the PUCIT faculty had started around 75 companies.

“You should make your parent, the college and our country proud through persistent hard work, and innovation through out-of-the-box technology solutions to advance human race and add to the comfort of fellow humans,” Dr Sarwar added.
