A retired scientist from whose account Rs2.7 million had mysteriously vanished earlier this week was given the money back on Wednesday. Dr Yousuf Khilji was given the money after the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) sent a notice to the concerned bank. On Monday, the retired scientist was left searching for answers when he discovered he had lost his life’s savings in suspected fraud transactions. The suspected transactions were carried out on October 25 and 26, within a span of 17 hours. Further, Rs2 million has vanished from the account of Additional Inspector General (IG) Punjab Tariq Masood Yaseen. The FIA’s cyber-crime wing is investigating how the money vanished from the accounts. A day earlier, FIA’s cyber-crime chief set off alarm bells as he revealed that customers’ data from “almost all major Pakistani banks” was stolen in a recent security breach. “Almost all [Pakistani] banks’ data has been breached. According to the reports that we have, most of the banks have been affected,” Director of FIA Cyber-Crimes wing Captain (r) Mohammad Shoaib said. Published in Daily Times, November 8th 2018.
