The Supreme Court (SC) has ordered the administrative authorities to immediately comply with the implementation of all its directives included in the report aimed for curbing illegal organ transplantation and promotion of deceased organ donation. According to an order issued by the bench of the apex court comprising Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Justice Mian Saqib Nisar, Justice Umar Ata Bandial and Justice Ijazul Ahsan, the report should be implemented by authorities in letter and spirit. The bench said that the compliance of the report covering the period of first six months should also be submitted with effect from (w.e.f) October 1. The report was finalised at the conclusion of a two-day conference which was earlier held at SIUT on the directives of the CJP. The workshop was attended by over two hundred all stakeholders including media, legal and medical professionals and representatives of law enforcing agencies (LEAs) who deliberated on various aspects related to the two issues. The report directed the transplant units, ICU interventionist, coordinators to fulfill their professional obligations. Similarly, the report stated that both electronic and print media should play their due role in creating awareness among the public regarding organ donation. In the report, the legal practitioners were asked to take appropriate steps in legislation. The law enforcing agencies were also asked to keep vigilance on law violators. The bench of the apex court also appreciated the services and contribution of SIUT director Professor Adib Rizvi Director and Mr Munir Malik, a prominent lawyer.
