An appeal by actor Meera challenging the family court’s May 2018 decision upholding her marriage to Attique-ur-Rehman was dismissed on Tuesday by the Lahore sessions court. The court declared the nikkahnama to be original despite the actor’s claims that the document was forged. The appeal was dismissed after the actor’s lawyer failed to appear in front of the court. However, Rehman’s lawyer who was present in the court proceedings asserted that Meera is his client’s lawful wife. The court’s decision puts into the spotlight the authenticity of Meera’s alleged marriage to Captain Naveed whom she called her husband after a scandal erupted of the two. After a video clip of Meera and CaptNaveed emerged, Rehman filed a case against Meera for marrying Captain Naveed without dissolution of her marriage to him. Meera’s counsel maintains that the family court’s ruling is incorrect and that she never married Rehman. The actor says she’s being blackmailed by Rehman and had filed a case against the businessman for forging the marriage certificate in 2009. Published in Daily Times, November 8th 2018.
