Justice Jawad Hassan of Lahore High Court on Monday, sought report from labour department about the enforcement of fundamental rights of domestic workers. The judge directed an additional advocate general to inquire from labour department on why the law has not been passed. The judge directed to the court’s commission members including labour secretary to appear on October 30, 2018. Earlier, the judge on March 19 had constituted the commission, comprising Punjab labour secretary, petitioner counsel Sheraz Zaka and two other advocates Sahar Umar Ata Bandial, Ahmad Pansota and a representative of United Nations International Children’s Fund. The judge directed to the commission constituted on court order, to ensure provincial government to legislative measures within two months to protect the fundamental rights of these workers. The commission was further directed to submit report on the progress of the government to take legislative measures to safeguard the rights of domestic workers. Social welfare worker Andleeb Abbas had moved this petition. Sheraz Zaka contended that in 2015, the LHC had ordered the labour secretary to consider framing policy on the domestic workers regarding their wages and they should also be notified just like workers working in industrial establishments.
