The employees of Municipal Workers Trade Union Alliance expressed serious reservations regarding conditions of an agreement signed with Chinese companies pertaining to lifting garbage in the metropolis. The Alliance Union President Zulfiqar Shah met Minister for Local Government Saeed Ghani during his visit to the Sindh Solid Waste Management Board (SSWMB) office on Wednesday. He informed the minister that employees were not being paid salary on 5th of every month and this was against the contract conditions. He said that the job was being carried out against agreement conditions and the Chinese firms had outsourced the contract for lifting garbage to other private firms. He told minister Ghani that this was incurring a huge loss to Sindh government exchequer. It is worth mentioning that the previous Sindh government had handed the contract to lift garbage from the metropolis to Chinese firms. Under this contract, machinery was also to be imported from China. The union presented 14-point agenda of demands and said they were not being provided any kind of facilities though they were employees of Sindh government. Saeed Ghani after listening to their reservations assured them that he would talk to Sindh LGD secretary and SSWMB managing director (MD). Minister Ghani also told the employees that he wanted the city neat and clean. Published in Daily Times, October 12th 2018.
