LARKANA: The Jeay Sindh Qaumi Mahaz (JSQM) on Thursday organised a massive demonstration against constructions of the Kalabagh and Diamar-Basha dams on the Indus River, and issuance of Computerised National Identity Cards (CNICs) to aliens and foreigners.“Sindh is neither orphan nor it has been eaten by jackals, and we, the owners of this land are still alive to save it from intruders,” JSQM Chairman Sanan Qureshi said. Reportedly, he said that such conspiracies were also hatched in the past, but failed miserably. He expressed profound concerns over what he termed as ‘a conspiracy’ to turn native Sindhis in minority by issuing citizenships to aliens. He further appealed to international human rights organisations to take notice of enforced disappearances of Sindhi people allegedly for preserving their nationalist ideology. He claimed that the JSQM has been following the ideology of late nationalist leader GM Syed and Shaheed Bashir Khan Qureshi, and asserted that the party’s peaceful struggle would continue to save fundamental rights of Sindh province and its inhabitants. He stated that Syed Jalal Mahmood Shah would lead “the nationalists’ struggle” to formulate the next line of action against the proposed constructions of dams on the Indus River, and rehabilitation of Burmese, Bengalis, Afghans, Biharis and other aliens in Sindh.JSQM senior vice-president Amjad Mahesar said that the struggle would soon be spread to every town and village of Sindh. He said the party strongly condemned such policies of the federal government for turning Sindhi people into a minority group. He further expressed grave concerns over inadequate distribution of water between provinces and non-implementation of the Water Apportionment Accord 1991. He said that PPP’s ministers were claiming that CNICs were being issued to Bengalis and Afghans to prevent them from committing crimes, but they forgot unemployment, poverty, power, and lack of resources and other issues of the society.Niaz Kalani said that Prime Minister Imran Khan has been talking of making Pakistan alike the state of Madina, but could he get citizenship of Madina. He strongly condemned the attack on the Baloch nationalist leader Akhtar Jan Mengal.Earlier, a large number of JSQM activists carried out a rally marching through various highways, and then culminating at the Jinnah Bagh where they staged a massive sit-in.Besides, many workers of other political and non-political parties also participated in the protest. They chanted full-throat slogans in favour of their demands while holding their party flags.Published in Daily Times, September 12th 2018.
