The Nawabshah Police on Monday lodged an FIR (First Information Report) against Zohaib Jamali, brother of victim Farzana Jamali who was sexually assaulted by a teacher of the Shaheed Benazir Bhutto University (SBBU) in Nawabshah, for pressurising her family to withdraw her complaint. Three weeks ago Farzana Jamali, final year student of the SBBU, held a press conference in the Hyderabad press club where she alleged that she was sexually harassed by the university’s teacher Aamir Khattak. She told that the vice-chancellor of the university was supporting teacher in the matter while pressurising her family to withdraw her complaint. On refusal, her father was arrested by the Nawabshah Police. When news went viral in the media, the Sindh government formed an inquiry committee to probe into the matter, but before its findings, Sindh Health Minister Azra Peechuho (sister of Asif Zardari) rescued culprits by refuting allegations made by Farzana. Following her remarks, the committee came under political pressure and consequently has not reported any findings. “My family has been pressurised to withdraw from the harassment case against the teacher of the SBBU,” she said, adding that her brother was being victimised by influential persons.
