WASHINGTON: Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi on Monday said that despite Pakistan’s commitment to improve relations with India, the country is fully capable of thwarting any sort of aggression.
“India’s decision to opt out of dialogues is disappointing and is contrary to diplomatic ethics. The aggressive comments of the Indian army chief and Indian government’s backing out is only to distract the world from it’s internal issues,” FM Qureshi said while speaking to a press conference in Washington.
He added that Pakistan is fully capable of responding to any sort of aggression. “Scores of Indians are critical of the Indian government’s policies in Kashmir. Also, there are concrete evidences of foreign involvement in Balochistan. We are capable of thwarting any sort of aggression and will do so if necessary,” he said.
Qureshi said that the United States has always took advantage of its ties with Pakistan. He added that the US wants to make India a strategic partner in the region, but Pakistan will continue to work with both China and the US at the same time.
The foreign minister will meet US Secretary of State Michael Pompeo on October 2.
