Sir: The spirit of 1974 Tripartite Accord was ‘let bygones be bygones’. This agreement should have heralded an era of peace between India, Pakistan and Bangladesh. But, it isn’t so. BJP’s chief calls now disenfranchised Bangladesh immigrants of 1971 war ‘termites’. Chiefs of Indian armed forces keep threatening Pakistan of painful war. They behave more like swaggering braggarts than chiefs. Imran Khan’s offer to resume peace talks between Pakistan and India, and the latter’s rejection of this olive branch makes it clear that under Prime Minister Modi, there can be no chance of such peace. Again and again Pakistani leaders have made every effort to engage their counterpart from across the border, yet every effort has been rebuffed. Perhaps it is time that our government should take a step back and reevaluate their position. MARYUM MALIK Lahore Published in Daily Times, September 24th 2018.
