Religious harmony

Author: Daily Times

Sir: Religious harmony is an integral part of the Muslim faith. Our history has taught us how to stand together despite our differences. Muslims were historically seen as very tolerant of other religions and faiths. The Prophet Muhammad (SAW) stressed that there is no compulsion in religion, so who are we to disrespect each other on the basis of faith.

Muharram is a month of mourning not only for Shi’ites but for all of humanity. The tragedy of Karbala reaches beyond borders and touches even the stoniest of hearts. Therefore, we should be united in this time of mourning rather than being divided by sectarian differences.

Furthermore, tolerance of opinion and faith was lauded by our Prophet (SAW), which was one of the reasons Madina was considered as an ideal state. By being tolerant and more inclusive as a society, we can also emulate the state of Madina. Moreover, religious minorities need to be empowered if we wish to succeed as a nation. Prosperity and prosperity only will follow when we work together and stand united.
