Epilepsy Foundation of Pakistan president Dr Fowzia Siddiqui on Wednesday left for Singapore to represent Pakistan in a two-day international neurology and neurosurgery conference. She would deliver a keynote in the international moot in which leading experts from China, Hong Kong, India and other countries are also taking part. Talking to media before leaving for Singapore, Siddiqui, a leading neuro-physician of the country, said the foreign trained Pakistani experts have played a key role in research on neurology and epilepsy in Pakistan which should be recognised. She recalled that when she had returned home after completing her higher medical education aboard only 2.5percent of epilepsy patients used to visit experts. Now 70 percent of urban epilepsy patients and 40 precent of rural epilepsy patients are visiting doctors. She said this is the result of the raised awareness that now more people are accepting epilepsy as a disease. Dr Fowzia is invited to the international moot to share her experience in treatment of epilepsy in a society where majority of the patients not only lack proper awareness but also the needed funds and facilities for the tenement of this neurological disorder.
