LAHORE: Justice Ali Akbar Qureshi of Lahore High Court on Tuesday ordered Lahore police to remove all hurdles or barricades erected around Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz Opposition Leader in Punjab Assembly Hamza Shehbaz’s Judicial Colony residence. The judge also ordered the law officer to submit a compliance report on Wednesday. The judge issued the directions on a petition moved by advocate Munir Ahmed. Petitioner Counsel Muhammad Azhar Siddique said that Hamza Shehbaz had constructed an illegally built wall and security room outside his residence without approval from the Lahore Development Authority (LDA). He informed that even one side of the two-lane road outside his house had been blocked for traffic by erecting illegal structures and barricades. He submitted that the hurdles had been created in the name of security by using government land. He pleaded that hurdles have been set up in the name of security by using government land to install generators and constructing animal caves. He said that all these constructions were causing problems to citizens which was sheer violation of Supreme Court’s order. He submitted that the SC had already ordered the police and the government to remove all kinds of blockades/hurdles in the city and open roads for public use. He said that the road outside the residence of Hamza had not been opened for public, which amounted to contempt of apex court. He requested to remove all hurdles and illegal constructions outside Hamza’s residence. The plaintiff adopted the stance that Hamza Shahbaz has illegally put barricades around his house which is a violation of Articles 4, 25, 17, 16, 14, 6 of the Constitution. The consistent blockage of road is also creating difficulties for the locals in transportation, he added. Published in Daily Times, September 19th 2018.
