Justice Ali Akbar Qureshi of Lahore High Court on Tuesday, summoned officials of the local government and Lahore Development Authority (LDA). The judge ordered these officials to appear today (Wednesday) while hearing a petition to provide place to Hindu community to perform cremation for their dead. Advocate Ishtiaq A Chaudhary had filed this petition. He said that the Hindu community living in Lahore is facing acute difficulties in case a person dies as government officials have not built any crematorium to perform rituals according to their faith. He said that LDA provided a reserved place for cremation near their residential areas. He sought directions to the government for allocation of areas for Hindu community for final rituals of their dead bodies. Published in Daily Times, September 19th 2018.
