GUJRANWALA: Robbers and thieves went on the rampage through the city of Gujranwala as a total of 27 incidents of armed robberies and burglaries were reported on Tuesday.
Reportedly, two bandits snatched Rs 28,000 and two mobile phones from a citizen Riaz on Ahmed Nagar road.
In another incident, unidentified armed robbers looted Rs 70,000, a gold locket and a mobile phone from Mubeen in the precinct of the Sadar Wazirabad police station.
Furthermore, bandits snatched Rs100,000 and two cell phones from Zaheer in Cantt area of the city.
Moreover, thieves took away Rs 36,000 and a mobile phone from Bashir on Nat Klan road in the jurisdiction of the Gakhar Mandi police station.
In another daylight robbery incident, dacoits snatched Rs 300,000, gold ornaments and three mobile phones from Zakir at gunpoint in the precinct of the Sadar Kamoki police station.
Additionally, two armed men snatched Rs 20,000 and a mobile phone from Rashid on Ferozwala road, and following the incident bandits robbed Rs 25,000 and a cell phone from Asim near the Ahmed Nagar police station.
Robbers looted Rs 70,000, a gold chain and two mobiles from a citizen Riasat at gunpoint in the jurisdiction of the Ladhewala police station.
Robbers seized Rs 32,000 from a woman in Kotwali area, and looted Rs 100,000, two cell phones from another citizen Ishaq in Nowshera Virkan area of Gujranwala.
Furthermore, armed men snatched Rs 40,000 and a cell phone from Talha while burglars sneaked into a house owned by Khalid and stole Rs 140,000 , 800 Saudi riyals and several cell phones at gun point in Sohdra town.
Besides, armed men looted cash, gold ornaments and valuables from a house owned by Pervez in Tatliwali area, while in another incident dacoits looted Rs 200,000, gold ornaments and valuables from a house owned by Haider in the precinct of the Sohdra police station.
Unidentified thieves sneaked into houses and shops of many citizens including Hamayun, Rafaqat, Qasim, Abdul Khaliq, Waleed, Sheikh Younas and Mehmood and stole valuables.
Moreover, vehicles owned by Ali Haider, Mohsin, Khalid and Ali were also stolen from different areas of the city.
Meanwhile, area police stations lodged cases of all these incidents and started investigations.
CIA police arrest 36 robbers, seize valuables and illegal arms
Crime Investigation Agency (CIA) police on Thursday claimed to have arrested 36 members of 12 gangs of robbers, and seized valuables worth millions of rupees and illegal arms from their possession.
Reportedly, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Imran Abbas Chadhar told the media that suspects were members of gangs including Riasu, Kala, Doctor, Kaleema, Umeri, Dema, Foji etc.
Meanwhile, during preliminary investigations, suspects have confessed their crimes, whereas police have started further investigations.
Youth tortured by friends over ‘money’ dispute
A youth was allegedly tortured by his friends on Thursday over an apparent money dispute in the jurisdiction of the Aroop police station in Gujranwala.
Reportedly, Owais quarrelled with his friend Ali, who along with his accomplices abducted Owais and took him to a deserted place for torture.
Meanwhile, they threw him in fields when he fell unconscious, and fled from the spot.
Aroop police have started investigation into the incident.
Lawyer shot, injured by unidentified assailants
A lawyer sustained critical bullet injuries on Thursday when unidentified motorists opened fire on him in Jagna area of Gujranwala.
Reportedly, advocate Muhammad Shoaib was returning home after visiting a session court when two assailants opened fire on him.
Meanwhile, he was rushed to the DHQ Hospital, whereas police have started investigation into the incident.
ACE arrests revenue officer for taking bribe
The Anti-Corruption Establishment’s (ACE) branch in Gujranwala on Thursday arrested a revenue officer red-handed while taking bribe from a citizen.
Reportedly, ACE Regional Director Sheikh Fareed Ahmed told the media that a citizen Khizer Hayyat filed an application with the ACE accusing Phalia Naib Tehsildar Muneeb Hussain of demanding bribe for transferring ownership of a property in his name.
Meanwhile, ACE team raided on Tehsil office and caught the accused red-handed while taking Rs 15,000 from the applicant.
