The short Pakistani film ‘Rani’, starring transgender model and activist Kami Sid, has been selected as a finalist at the world renowned NBC Universal Short Film Festival. The short film will be screened at a red carpet event in Los Angeles on October 24th. ‘Rani’ was previously selected from over 3,500 films as one of fifteen semi-finalists and is now one of six finalists at this prestigious festival. Directed by Hammad Rizvi, and produced by Akbar Allana and Sara Siddiqi, the film was previously screened at the Rhode Island International Film Festival, CAAMFEST and is also the winner of the Fox Inclusion Short Award at Outfest, Los Angeles. An American/Pakistani co-production, the film tells the story of a Pakistani transgender woman who sets out to take care of an abandoned baby. Shot on the streets of Karachi, Pakistan, the film has been produced by GrayScale and Rizvilia Productions. Published in Daily Times, September 14th 2018.
