Sir, it may be in your knowledge that Yaseer Rehamni, a 9-year old brick kiln labourer from Manga Mandi, was arrested by the police of the Manga Mandi Police Station on August 26, from Okara District, in connection with FIR No. 476/18. This news was published in local media on the very same day of his arrest but until today the police station in charge of the investigation has not produced him in any court, nor submitted any report as to why his arrest was made etc. His parents, since his arrest, have been trying finding him but all their efforts have gone in vain. The police station staff said to them that their son had not been arrested in the first place. It is on record that on the day of the arrest, the local media published the news on, and it was seen widely by the people living in the region. The rampant lawlessness and extreme legal violations on part of the police slowly and gradually have been increasing day by day. No one has any idea of the exact number of juveniles detained in jails and arrested by the police in connection with FIRs. Juveniles and women are the most vulnerable part of our society because of that they suffer the most. Yaseer Rehmani is not the only one who has gone missing and there are many other cases where the police either extra judicially killed juveniles in police custody such as Mohammad Rizwan in Lahore, or charge sheeted them as adults in sheer negation of the Juvenile Justice System. I submit that we as a society must embark upon justice to all, especially to juveniles and women. All investigation processes and the judicial system are stacked against their favour and have led many to be arrested and sentenced even if they were not at fault. Yaseer Rehmani and others who have gone missing must be brought back to their families or to a court without any further delays. And the courts shall be given an opportunity to decide punishment for all those who have committed criminal acts. The police and law enforcing agencies must not take the law in their hands and no one should be condemned unheard. SARMAD ALI Lahore
