Sindh Minister for Minorities Affairs, Social Welfare and Prisons Hari Ram Kishori Lal on Monday visited the burns unit at the Civil Hospital, Karachi, to inquire after the health of two children under treatment for burn injuries suffered in an accident in Tando Ghulam Ali. He was accompanied by Minorities Affairs secretary Tameezuddin Khero. Speaking on the occasion, Kishori Lal directed the administration of the burns ward to pay full attention on the treatment of the injured children, adding that no negligence in this regard would be tolerated. Dr. Attia Ahmed told the minister that on September 3, 11 persons who were injured in the fire incident in Tando Ghulam Ali were brought to the facility for treatment. The injured included a 70-year-old woman, who along with six children have since died from their injuries. The medical officer informed the minister that one of the children under treatment at the facility, 9-year Ajay, was in a critical condition. She said he had burns on almost half of his body. On the occasion, the minister also met Umar, who had lost his both arms in an electric shock suffered at his house in Ahsanabad area. Later, talking to the media, Kishori Lal said that the Sindh government will make every possible effort to provide financial assistance to the victims of the fire in Tando Ghulam Ali. He said that the chief minister would be requested to announce a special package for the victims’ families. He said that the unfortunate incident took place at the Hindu community was about to celebrate on the occasion of its religious festival of Thadri. Responding to a query, the provincial minister said that the Sindh government was paying special attention to the improvement of healthcare facilities in Sindh, adding that burns wards would soon be revived at health facilities across the province so that victims of unfortunate incidents could be provided medical aid in time.
