Chinese Language & Culture Exchange Programme held at RMS

Author: Staff Report

China Radio International – Millennium Confucius Classroom organised the Chinese Language & Culture Exchange Programme (CLCEP) at Roots Millennium Schools (RMS) One World Campus in Islamabad for the staff members to promote cross-cultural understanding.

Addressing the ceremony, Confucius Classroom Pakistan Director Chen Xiang, said that China and Pakistan share a deep rooted friendship. Both nations have shared a healthy relationship in the past and can learn from each other through such cultural exchange programmes to achieve progress hand in hand. He also said that sharing cultures build strong foundations of social networking and friendly relations.

Earlier, in a welcome note, Foreign Language Department Manager Mona Kanwal said that in order to deliver world class education where the rest of the world is increasingly multilingual, a well-rounded education includes high quality language learning. Understanding and proficiency of any foreign language needs time and Chinese is no exception. To indisputably understand the importance of Chinese language, we motivate “our children to learn the language of the 21st century to get linguistically literate and culturally competent”.

The 21st century global competitiveness depends on foreign language mastery. To regain a measure of competitiveness, RMS organised the Chinese Language & Cultural Exchange Programme for the staff members to promote cross cultural understanding. The CLCEP 2018 was a combination of multiple cultural activities including Chinese paper cutting, Chinese tea making, philosophy language literacy, Chinese knot, Calligraphy, Taiji Martial Arts, Bamboo Clapper Talk and chopsticks usage were highlights of the day. The participants had an exposure to daily Chinese expression which brought the vibrant yet enchanting experience to life. The Chinese Class of Daily Expressions provided a great opportunity to the participants as some basic conversation skills were taught to them.

The RMS launched the unique Chinese Language School Initiative nine years before where now 9,500 students of RMS are learning Chinese language on a full time basis as part of their structured academic study plan and language curriculum from Grade 1 to Grade 7.
