Sir: Prime Minister (PM) Imran Khan’s recent request to journalists and the community of media persons, asking them to show his government some lenience for the next three months is quite unusual. It is not only the role of the Opposition in Parliament to keep the government on its toes, but the media’s as well. Furthermore, it should be remembered that the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI)took a highly aggressive stance against the previous government almost as soon as election results were announced. The first 100 days of a new government receives more scrutiny in democracies around the world. Now that the PTI finds itself in a tight spot, because of the aggressive rhetoric it has used in the past. The media, as well as the opposition should play their role diligently and the PTI will simply have to deal with it. MURTAZA HASSAN Lahore Published in Daily Times, September 3rd 2018.
