Army troops, along with the officials of local law enforcement agencies, were deployed in Ghizar valley of Gilgit Baltistan (GB) after some militants attacked and torched police check post on Sunday. According to sources, the militants torched a seasonal check post and police camps near Saingal village in Ghizar valley. Following an exchange of fire with the security officials, the militants managed to escape the venue. Following the attacks on twelve girls’ schools in various parts of Diamer District on August 2, and the attackers taking refuge in Ghizar valley, the security arrangements were enhanced and the police officials, anticipating an attack, were stationed in the valley for the last two weeks. The schools targeted by the militants were all-girls while, at least one of the school was attacked five times in the recent years. These attacks triggered road protests and blockade of the Karakoram Highway. On August 5, the law enforcement agencies (LEAs) claimed that they identified one of the 36 suspected militants which were arrested earlier for their alleged involvement in the burning down of schools in Diamer. Later, two suspects and a police constable were killed in a shootout between the suspected militants and security personnel during the operation in Tangir area, according to sources.
