Scores of members of minority faiths held a demonstration on Sunday against an alleged failure of officers of Mehar police station in recovering an abducted woman named ‘Pyari Bagri’ belonging to their community in Mehar town, an administrative subdivision of Dadu District in Sindh province. Reportedly, the protesters including her relatives Megho Bagri, Wasina Bagri and Aaji Bagri carried out a rally in Mehar town while chanting full-throat slogans against malpractices and dereliction of duty by the police officers. In their talk to the media, they asserted that a group of ten assailants kidnapped Pyari Bagri outside her home situated at Theba road in Mehar colony about ten days ago. Meanwhile, they said that they lodged a complaint at the Mehar police station; however, the officers failed ‘miserably’ to arrest the suspects and recover her. They alleged that police was avoiding to take an action against them due to political pressure, and claimed that minority communities were not safe as police has failed to protect them. Furthermore, they revealed that they had approached Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) representatives for help, but they did not support them. They also informed that they had been receiving threats from influential people of the region that if they would not stop protesting, they would have to face dire consequences. Later, they appealed to the Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Mian Saqib Nisar, Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Qamar Javed Bajwa and Prime Minister (PM) of Pakistan Imran Khan to take notice of the incident, and issue directives to the provincial government of Sindh and Inspector General of Police (IGP) for the protection of minority communities in Sindh, and ensure recovery of Pyari Bagri as soon as possible.
