A prisoner, brought by the Larkana Police to the District and Sessions Court (DSC) Shikarpur for a case-hearing on Friday, sustained bullet wounds in an armed attack which took place at the premises of the DSC. Both the parties belonged to the Jatoi Tribe of the Larkana District and had an old hostility. Ali Baig Bijarani, the Station House Officer (SHO) New Faujdari Police Station, told this scribe that a prisoner identified as Ghulam Abbas Jatoi was brought for a case- hearing when his rival also came there in the guise of a police constable and opened straight fire with TT Pistol on the prisoner. The police opened fire on the assailant and arrested him in injured condition. Later, he was identified as Ahsan alias Mehran Jatoi of Larkana. The police officials transported both the assailant and the prisoner to the District Headquarter (DHQ) Hospital Shikarpur for medical treatment where their condition was out of danger. Following the incident, the newly posted Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Shikarpur, Sarfraz Nawaz, along with a heavy contingent, rushed at the DSC and told the local reporters that it appeared to be an old enmity between the two and that no one would be allowed to take the law into their own hands. The police also started investigation as how the assailant entered the DSC with a weapon despite the strict security measures at the court. It was also reported that a deadly dispute started about two years ago between the families of the assailant and the prisoner over the alleged sharing of information with the police and it already claimed five lives of both the rival parties so far but this could not be confirmed.
